Meet MVNA Board Member, Jason Barber
Jason Barber is the newest member of the MVNA Board and was elected in the fall of 2019. Jason is a local real estate agent with Fred Real Estate Group. A native of Walla Walla, Jason has spent most of his career in the field of teaching. He worked as a head teacher in an independent academy in Seoul, South Korea for over three years and taught career development skills at a graduate school in Silicon Valley for three years following that. Jason joined the board to provide a millenial perspective to the neighborhood decision making progress and to advocate for community needs. Jason grew up in a neighborhood where all of the families got together for regular events and where people baked for each other on the holidays and took care of each others' properties when someone went out of town. He hopes to help make Mountain View a neighborhood where neighboorliness and good deeds come first. Jason and his wife Christy recently relocated from McMinnville, Oregon after getting married at Elk Lake Resort just outside of Bend.

City of Bend Discusses Proposed Budget Cuts

Due to COVID-19 related closures and economic impacts, the City of Bend anticipates a revenue shortfall this 2019-21 biennium between $7 million and $14.5 million.

“The City’s revenues come from people in Bend and visitors, and our region has experienced high unemployment, a drop in tourism and business closures,” said City Manager Eric King.

Budget shortfalls could begin affecting the City’s budget this summer. The City of Bend collects different revenues at different times, so the full budgetary impact of COVID-19 on the City of Bend will be unknown for many months. Anticipated Citywide revenue shortfalls as of today include:
  • $5.4 million to $11.4 million shortfall from room tax revenues;
  • $400,000 to $1.3 million shortfall from lower property tax collections;
  • $700,000 to $1.2 million shortfall from fines and citations; and
  • $650,000 shortfall from highway gas taxes.

Neighborhood Leadership Alliance Committee (NLA) - this newly formed City committee is comprised of representatives from all 13 neighborhood associations in Bend. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 4 PM in City Council Chambers and are open to members of the public. The mission of the NLA is to give a unified voice to citizen concerns and to advise City Council on issues affecting our neighborhoods.
